Why visit Cape Mentelle?

Cape Mentelle helped establish Margaret River’s reputation for Cabernet Sauvignon. Its Wallcliffe location, only a short drive from Margaret River township, makes it one of the easiest heritage estates to include in a compact itinerary.

Best for: Cabernet Sauvignon, regional history, flexible tastings and visitors staying near Margaret River town.

The experience

The rammed-earth cellar-door setting includes a display tracing the winery’s history. Visitors can taste current wines and occasional cellar-door exclusives, then use the garden, picnic tables and pétanque area for a more relaxed pause.

What to taste

Cabernet Sauvignon is the historical anchor, joined by Chardonnay and Shiraz among the estate’s principal releases. It is a useful stop for comparing classic regional Cabernet with the southern part of the region.

Planning your visit

The official site currently lists the cellar door as open daily from 10am–5pm. Book a structured experience if desired, or visit for a standard tasting subject to availability. Confirm hours before travelling.
